PCC (Plastics Color Corp.), Calumet City, Ill., a maker of color and additive concentrates and compounds, has acquired Polysource LLC and its Pinnacle Color subsidiary in Tempe, Ariz. Polysource is a color and additive concentrate manufacturer and distributor. •Imerys (U.S. office in Roswell, Ga.), a supplier of fillers for plastics (clay, calcium carbonate, mica, etc.), has acquired Luzenac Group from Rio Tinto. Luzenac is the world leader in talcs.
•Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport, Tenn., has purchased Houston-based Sterling Chemicals, Inc., which produces primarily acetic acid. Sterling also has an idled plasticizer plant, which Eastman plans to restart and modify to make non-phthalate plasticizers, such as Eastman 168, a benzenedicarboxylate type.
•Evonik Industries of Germany (U.S. office in Piscataway, N.J.) has sold its carbon black business to New York-based Rhone Capital and Triton Partners. Evonik Carbon Black is now called Orion Engineered Carbons.
•In testing equipment, TA Instruments, New Castle, Del., has acquired Anter Corp. and Anter Laboratories of Pittsburgh. TA Instruments supplies thermal-analysis instruments (DSC, TGA, DMA, and TMA) and rheometers. Anter makes instruments to measure thermal expansion, thermal conductivity and diffusivity, and heat capacity of materials.
