Emerald Performance Now Part Of American Securities

Leading specialty chemicals producer poised to continue growth trajectory under new ownership.

Emerald Performance Materials, LLC, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, has completed the sale of the company to an affiliate of private equity firm American Securities LLC. Emerald has been an affiliated portfolio company of Sun Capital Partners since 2006, when it was formed from the divestiture of six specialty chemical business of Lubrizol, and has made four additional acquisitions since then in complementary businesses.

The company’s leading brands serve a wide range of end markets including plastics, flavors and fragrances, food and beverage, personal and household care, composites, structural adhesives, and coatings. Specialty additives for plastics include non-phthalate plasticizers for which global capacity has been expanded by the company. In addition, Emerald has recently added assets at its Charlotte, N.C., facility for expanded production of foam control and specialty silicone additives, increased capacity of its reactive modifies at Maple Shade, N.J., and expanded R&D and pilot plant capabilities at Kalama, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Moorestown and Akron. The company has introduced 50 new products since its formation, focusing on expanding its high-performance additives and wide range of low- and 0-VOC products.  Very little change is anticipated to take place as a result of the sale and American Securities plans to continue supporting the strategic growth of the company.
