To grow its custom color capabilities, A.Schulman, Akron, Ohio, has made yet another acquisition, of color and additive concentrates maker Prime Colorants, Franklin, Tenn. Last year, Schulman bought compounder and distributor Network Polymers in Akron and British compounder and distributor Perrite Group. A. Schulman chairman, president and CEO Joseph Gingo said this latest move is in keeping with its strategy to shift its U.S.business away from commodity products toward niche products and services.
Schulman and Prime Colorants have had a long-term working relationship, with Prime providing toll production of some color concentrates for Schulman. In the last two years, Prime has increased its capacity by over 2.5 million lb/yr. This acquisition allows Shulman to serve customers better in an area of the country where Schulman did not have a presence.
