Braskem Buys Dow's PP Business
Braskem in Brazil has acquired the polypropylene business of Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich.
Braskem in Brazil has acquired the polypropylene business of Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich. The deal includes two plants in Texas (Freeport and Seadrift) and two in Germany, with a total capacity of 2.3 billion lb/yr. Braskem also bought the Sonoco Chemicals PP business last year. Dow’s 1.1-billion-lb U.S. capacity raises Braskem’s total PP capacity in this country to 3.1 billion lb. Braskem already claimed to be the largest plastic resins producer in the Americas and says this acquisition also makes it the largest PP producer in North America. Braskem America is in Philadelphia.
