Braskem in Brazil has acquired the polypropylene business of Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich. The deal includes two plants in Texas (Freeport and Seadrift) and two in Germany, with a total capacity of 2.3 billion lb/yr. Braskem also bought the Sonoco Chemicals PP business last year. Dow’s 1.1-billion-lb U.S. capacity raises Braskem’s total PP capacity in this country to 3.1 billion lb.
