Gravimetric Blenders From a New Source—April 2005

Matsui America Inc., Elk Grove Village, Ill., has introduced its first gravimetric blender to the U.S. market. The model JCW2 batch weigh blender handles two main materials (virgin pellets and regrind) plus a pelletized additive. It uses screw feeders and knife gates to meter batch sizes up to 6.6 lb at maximum rates of 220 or 330 lb/hr. The fully enclosed, caster-mounted unit is designed for press-side use. An optional vacuum-cleaning nozzle uses the conveying blower to purge material for changeovers.

The blender conveys a batch to the new Aero Power Hopper (APH) on the molding machine. The hopper's upper chamber introduces fluidizing air to mix and prevent layering and to remove dust (a fines cyclone is optional). The hopper has a proximity switch to control loading and now has a flapper valve to provide a better vacuum seal than earlier models.
