Single-Screw Extruders With Quick-Change Barrels—September 2007

An unusual series of modular single-screw extruders with interchangeable barrels is being introduced in three sizes at the K Show in Germany next month by American Kuhne Inc., Norwich, Conn. The Modular Extruder Series can change barrel size, L/D, and throughput. Nothing like it has been available except German-built, lab-size machines. The smallest of the new line is a range of three machines from 0.5 to 1.0 in. diam. with barrels that can be changed manually. The medium range is four extruders from 1 to 1.75 in., with barrels mounted on wheeled carts. The largest is a group of six models between 2 and 3.5 in. diam. with barrels on sub-bases that are moveable by forklift or crane.
