Keeping-Up with Additives

‘Greener’ Liquid Phosphite Contains No Nonylphenol—October 2007

A novel liquid phosphite antioxidant is said to offer a more worker-friendly alternative to the workhorse secondary antioxidant, TNPP, while providing very similar cost-performance. New DVS005 from Chemtura Corp., Middlebury, Conn., is 100% free of nonylphenol, an alleged “endocrine disruptor” or hormone mimicker. This more “benign molecule” (patent pending) conceivably can be used as a drop-in replacement for TNPP. Chemtura will be exhibiting at the K 2007 show this month in Dusseldorf. TNPP is one of the very few phosphite antioxidants with both FDA food-contact approval and a good cost-performance ratio. It is used primarily in LLDPE film and in some HDPE film, PVC, and SBR applications. Chemtura is pursuing FDA food-contact approval for DVS005. Tel: (877) 948-2660 • www.chemtura.com
