11-Layer Spiral Die For Blown Film—April 2008

Windmoeller & Hoelscher in Germany (U.S. office in Lincoln, R.I.) has designed an 11-layer version of its patented Maxicone conical spiral die. Though W&H hasn’t yet built or tested a prototype, an 11-layer spiral die is interesting even in the concept stage. In W&H’s 9-layer Maxicone die, the ninth layer is fed from the side, confluent with the first layer of an 8-layer nest, in order to ensure the shortest melt path and residence time. Depending on the materials involved, W&H’s 11-layer solution is expected to involve side-feeding layers 9, 10, and 11. (401) 333-2770 • www.whcorp.com
