High-Pressure Valve Gates—April 2009


A new line of hot-runner valve-gate systems designed for high-pressure processes comes from Gunther Hot Runner Systems Inc., W. Chicago, Ill. The N_T line includes the 4NFT60LA flat nozzle, which can be used with the X-Melt expansion injection molding process from Engel Machinery Inc., York, Pa.; as well as the 8NLT80 nozzle, which has been tested with the MuCell microcellular foaming process from Trexel Inc., Woburn, Mass. Gunther’s 4NFT60LA flat nozzle (below) was leak-tight when tested with Engel’s X-Melt process, which compresses the melt in the hot runner to about 2800 bar (40,628 psi) pressure for half a second. Once the needle gate opens, the pre-compressed melt expands rapidly to fill the cavity. Small, thin-wall parts fill in tenths or hundredths of a second. In the MuCell process, Gunther’s 8NLT80 nozzle keeps nitrogen or CO2 gas dissolved in the polymer within the hot runner by maintaining high pressure without leaking. 630) 293-4650 • www.gunther-usa.com
