Keeping-Up with Injection Molding

New Service Verifies Flow-Simulation Predictions—April 2009

An economical approach to verifying that computer-aided flow simulation will give an accurate molding prediction with your particular resin is offered as a new service from Beaumont Technologies, Inc., Erie, Pa. According to BTI, one value of this service is to verify the accuracy of flow-simulation predictions for “equivalent materials.” Such predictions can be inaccurate if they are based on generic material data and not your specific grade, or on single-point material data rather than multi-point tables. BTI’s new Veri-flo service uses a proprietary method to benchmark a material’s true molding behavior. The method involves actual injection molding and is said to be less expensive than typical laboratory testing services. The process requires a 20-lb sample of resin and takes a few hours to complete.
