Coex Pancake Die Has Changeable Inserts—February 2003

A prototype of a modular pancake die is believed to be the first with removable metallic inserts in each pancake to change the flow gap for resins of different viscosities, reports Dual Spiral Systems Inc., Hamilton, Ont. It's part of a new generation of a pancake die the firm commercialized 2.5 years ago with Dual Spiral's layer-splitting technology. The new version also has a heated central mandrel and fully modular, removable pancakes. In the earlier version, two pancakes shared a common wall between them. The new die will be available for up to 10 layers and is expected to become commercial in May. It will be shown at NPE in Chicago in June.
