Evaluating Cavity Pressure Variations Effect on Process Window

October 25, 2016 |

The goal of multi-cavity molds is to provide a platform where a stable/robust process can produce nearly identical parts in each of the cavities. The proper marriage of mold and process assures optimum performance and the broadest window for controlling the dimensional, mechanical and cosmetic specification of each of the molded parts. This presentation will show how cavities in a multi-cavity mold may fill and pack under very different conditions in one scenario versus near identical conditions in another scenario. Cavity pressure sensors were utilized to record the data and provide insight into when and how the cavity variations are developed, the effect on process window and how those variations can be minimized.
