Heavy-gauge industrial sheet is extruded to make bath surrounds, spas and truck bed liners, boats, portable structures, and more. This type of sheet is always cut-to-length and accumulated in stacks.
Producing heavy-gauge, wide industrial and commercial sheet requires highly specialized equipment.
Thick sheet is much more difficult to cool than thinner sheet. Slow heat diffusion through the sheet limits the cooling rate. Cooling must be done very gradually to avoid sheet distortion from differential shrinkage of the colder surface layers and the hotter inner layers.
Industrial sheet operations usually extrude multiple types of patterned sheets, so the take-off is built with a quick roll change feature to simplify patterned roll changes.
Protective laminates and decorative finishes are often applied during the extrusion process.
