Exhibiting at our Thermoplastic Composites Conference for Automotive (TCC16 for Auto) in mid-June, was American Renolit Corp., Troy, Mich., a less than one-year presence in the North American market with its Renolit Tecnogor composite material based on polyolefins (primarily PP) and glass fiber in extruded sheets. It reportedly has been designed to exceed market expectations with high stiffness, rigidity, lightweight, and low environmental impact. The key is that 50% of the formulation’s composition contains long glass fibers.

An German-based company, Renolit has a history dating back to 1946, and has formed joint ventures in China and India over the years with a strong presence in Europe. Technical sales manager Stephen Fore at American Renolit noted that automotive interiors are a key market with applications such as parcel shelves, load floors, door trims, trunk trims and seat back panels. The extensive product line ranges from wood-stock, high-stiffness, and lightweight sheets to patented sheets that can create pins during thermoforming as well as honeycomb structures. There are also new and “fashion style” sheets developed in conjunction with OEMs, as well as a number of films, soft-touch effects, embossed effects, and natural fibers available upon request. Moreover, sheet and rolls of Renolit Tecnogor can be used in building and construction applications such as formworks and wall reinforcement, as well as aesthetic, embossed and thermoforming sheets for furniture applications in several colors. Other potential markets include campers and boats.
