Plastics Technology…Refocused

What’s new? For the past four decades, Plastics Technology has focused its editorial efforts primarily on answering that question. Typically our team of editors would start a conversation with an industry supplier using those exact words. And each month, our magazine and website would be filled with the latest developments in technology for machinery, equipment, materials, tooling, and more in an effort to keep you abreast of the latest in supplier news.

We’ll still be doing that, but beginning in November we’ll be complementing those kinds of articles with a greater emphasis on how processors are applying technology to solve problems and become more competitive. You’ll see more practical, “hands-on” coverage of plastics processing: tips and tricks of the trade, processing how-to’s, troubleshooting guides, and in-plant case histories. The idea is to help you solve problems you are having now, or at least point you toward someone who can help.

Buying Resin
Contract benzene dropped $0.86/gallon in September reducing the cost to produce ABS, PC, Nylon and PS as demand continues to be soft. Knowing how much this benzene move reduced the cost to produce resins you buy will give you an advantage when negotiating with your suppliers. Learn More

Dri-AirRobot News at NPE

The recent NPE saw the debut of dozens of new and enhanced robots for injection molding. The vast majority of the new models were all-servo types, though some economized by mixing servo and pneumatic axes. These new robots emphasized higher speeds, heavier payload capacity, longer reach, and more intelligent controllers that make programming and troubleshooting easier than ever. Learn More

Thermoforming News at NPE
NPE had its share of innovations in thermoforming, notably a new machine that opens the small-bottle market to thermoformers. New trim stations offer more in the way of output and versatility. And more machines are now outfitted with off-the-shelf controls to facilitate servicing. Learn More
