To wind flatter rolls of cast film with less edge trim there's now an alternative to oscillating the film as it's wound. Colines in Nibbia, Italy, developed a system it calls "dittering," which involves electronic feed control and feathering the die's automatic gauge control to open and close the die lips by a small amount in a continuing oscillation. Colines developed the system using an automatic die from Cloeren Inc., Orange, Texas. The first application was in 2004 on an eight-extruder, seven-layer barrier film line at sister company B-Pack in Italy. Colines has sold nine more Dittering lines since then.
