It’s the widest blown film line ever built, according to Gloucester Engineering Co., Gloucester, Mass., which shipped the system earlier this year to make geomembranes. The line has an 86-in.-diam. die, capable of producing geomembrane liners 0.5 to 2.5 mm thick and up to 23 ft wide. The take-up is a special dual-drum surface winder over 30 ft wide. On roll changes, the winder automatically cuts the liner, retrieves a sample, and then transfers the web to the new core. The line has an 8 in.-diam., 36:1 main extruder with a 1000-hp motor and two 3.5-in. coextruders for skin layers. It was delivered to Polytex SA, a Chilean processor, for a new plant in Peru, which started up in July. (978) 281-1800 • www.gecextrusion.com
