Zylar 631 from Nova Chemicals Inc., Moon Township, Pa., is a new impact-modified acrylic copolymer for injection molding. As an alternative to polycarbonate, clear ABS, and impact acrylic, the new resin is said to have the advantage of lower density (1.15 g/cc), easy flow, faster cycles, lower process temperatures, and no need for drying. Gardner impact strength is 100 in.-lb (vs. 18 for Zylar 530), and clarity is said to approach that of PC.
