An add-on power unit that delivers stored energy to the machine at start-up as a means to cut power demand is new from Battenfeld of America, South Elgin, Ill. Its new "Reactive Load" power capacitor comes in sizes from 7.5 to 75 kW for use with Battenfeld's hydraulic presses from 27.5 to 550 tons. When the machine requires more power it draws it from the capacitor rather than the power line in the plant, lowering peak demand. Digital control responds to energy demand in fractions of a second and delivers balanced quantities of electricity that prevents spiking, Battenfeld says. Tel: (847) 5310015 . www.battenfeld.com
