Two processing aids for use in nylon and EVOH barrier layers in extruded packaging will be introduced this month at the K 2013 show by Germany’s Lehmann & Voss & Co. (U.S. office in Pawcatuck, Conn.). Luvobatch PA PPA 9659, based on a high-viscosity nylon 6 carrier, is reportedly suitable for use in numerous nylons. Luvobatch EVOH PPA 5157, based on an EVOH with 32 mol% ethylene content, is said to be suitable for use in all standard EVOH grades with ethylene contents of 29 to 44 mol%. Initial trials with film, sheet, and tube manufacturers reportedly show improved productivity and ability to use thinner EVOH layers without defects in extrusion with spiral-mandrel film dies.
