A new line of air rings from Future Design Inc., Mississauga, Ont., is designed give blown film processors the flexibility to add features and functionality as the application dictates. A building-block design allows processors to start with a standard air ring and upgrade the same unit at any time to a manual profiling air ring. The air ring also can be upgraded to fully automated profiling. Both the manual and fully automated system can be fitted to oscillating and rotating dies. Future Design believes that this is the first automated profiling air ring in the world that has the ability to oscillate or rotate.
The electronic controls of the profiling air ring have been designed to work in conjunction with various OEM gauge monitoring systems. Systems in the field reportedly have achieved point-to-point gauge variations of ±3% at rates of 24 lb/in. of die circumference.
