A lower-priced line of all-electric toggle presses for general-purpose use is new from KraussMaffei Corp., Florence, Ky. The AX line was developed through collaboration between KraussMaffei and Toshiba Machine Co. of Japan. This series is said to be much lower in cost than KraussMaffei’s EX all-electric line for high-end technical applications. Compared with hydraulic presses, AX models are said to offer energy savings of 50% to 75%. Initial sizes are 88, 110, and 198 tons, though the line ultimately will extend from 55 to 385 tons. Roller bearings on the moving platen reportedly reduce friction up to 80% versus a sliding-support design. It also comes with KM’s MC5 controller and can be configured as a production cell with an integrated robot, creating a 25% smaller footprint than a non-integrated cell.
