Three new liquid secondary aliphatic polyetheramines signifi cantly slow the curing of polyurea and PUR systems to provide more open time and control in specialized elastomer, sealant, adhesive, and coating applications. Jeffamine SD-231, SD-401, and SD2001 amines from Huntsman Performance Products, The Woodlands, Texas, are designed to be used with chain extenders or as partial replacements for fasterreacting primary polyetheramines. The new products reportedly are stable and non-offgassing and can improve fl exibility and color of aromatic formulations while reducing overall cost. They also allow formulation of high-hardness products. As low-viscosity liquids, they can create much lower-viscosity isocyanate prepolymers with properties equal to those obtained with primary polyetheramines, Huntsman says.
