WEB EXCLUSIVE A new range of pearlescent effect pigments with anti-yellowing properties are said to enhance the appearance and prolong the life of plastic products. Xymara XPS pearlescent pigments from Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Tarrytown, N.Y., are said to be suitable for cosmetics bottles, jars, containers, and many other functional and decorative items. Conventional mica-based pearl pigments tend to cause yellowing of plastics following exposure to light, but Ciba developed a surface treatment that stabilizes the pigments and inhibits yellowing. The two initial products are SilverPearl XPS19, which gives a white satin luster, and SilverPearl XPS23, which combines the satin sheen with a slight glitter. The XPS products can be used together with other effect and color to produce individual and exclusive designs. Varying particle sizes meet different application requirements: Small particles give a gentle silky sheen, while larger particles impart a stronger glitter effect. (800) 431-2360 * www.cibasc.com
