ASSEMBLY: Next-Generation Structural Adhesives for PVC, ABS, Acrylic

3M's new structural acrylic adhesives boast a faster cure time, expanding process work time up to 25 minutes.

A new family of next-generation structural acrylic adhesives for use with PVC, ABS and acrylic resins and compounds has been introduced by 3M, St. Paul, Minn.

Representing the latest additions to the ScotchWeld product line, Acrylic Adhesive DP8425NS and Low-Odor Acrylic Adhesive DP8825NS boast a faster cure time, expanding process work time up to 25 minutes. The unique kinetics of the reaction is said to accelerate the cure, reading handling strength in 45 min. and structural strength (1000 psi) in 50 min., which means less clamp time. According to 3M, these adhesives allow manufacturing engineers to greatly improve the efficiency of their assembly process. Industry professionals can now make large assemblies that were once thought of as impossible because they won’t have to worry about switching out mixing nozzles or deal with the difficult cleanup of a cured adhesive.
