Brown Machine LLC, Beaverton,, Mich., and automation specialist DJS Systems Inc., Homer, Mich., have teamed up to offer a novel lid production system that incorporates a servo-actuated trim press and a three-tier lid automation and packaging system. Up until now, most lid production has involved packing by hand. This is claimed to be the first triple-row trim integration of its type in the industry. The first automated system is being used by a leading U.S. manufacturer of cold-drink lids. The high-output system coordinates the former, trim press, and handling system. The Brown trim press has a precision-guided linear moving platen. The servo drive enables the system to slow down for controlled long ejection into the automation system, and then speed up to make up the loop and match the cycle of the thermoformer. The DJS automation system utilizes a servo pusher to contain the stacked lids through the transfer process. A two-axis robot arm grasps each tier of lids independently and positions them on an indexing conveyor. The lids are then transferred to bagging and boxing stations. The trim press and automation system can be provided separately or as a package. (877) 702-4142 • www.brownmachine.com/(517) 568-4444 • www.djs systems.com
