At its Competence Days open house in Austria in April, Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH (U.S. office in Torrington, Conn.) unveiled two new auxiliaries for plastics processing. One is an upgrade of the Gravimax B14 weigh blender that eases cleanout. Now the hoppers are equipped with a pneumatic lifting device that raises the lids of the hoppers with the loaders attached. Thus, there is no need to remove the loaders first and reinstall them after cleaning.
The other development is the new Tempro Basic C120 series of direct-cooling hot-water mold temperature-control units (TCUs). They offer increased heating and cooling capacity for rapid heat/cool (variotherm) molding. They are said to provide minimal heating times for molds weighing up to 11 tons.
Up to now the Tempro direct-cooling TCUs were limited to 18 kW heating capacity. But the larger unit of the new series offers 18 or 24 kW and is optionally available with 46 kW. Pump capacities are 200 to 280 l/min. The smaller unit offers 12 or 18 kW and pump capacity up to 200 l/min. This unit is especially compact, measuring 9 x 26.9 x 24.6 in. The larger unit measures 13.3 x 30.3 x 27.3 in.

Resin drying, resin conveying and process heating and cooling are as vital to the injection molding process as the press and tool, and they get their due at Molding 2017.
