On display this month at NPE2012 in Orlando is the new MP1200 extrusion plastometer from Tinius Olsen, Horsham, Pa. It uses three-zone temperature control to provide what are said to be unprecedented accuracy and thermal stability. Three platinum RTD sensors maintain the furnace temperature to within 0.1° C, with a resolution of 0.01° C, and control temperature variation along the barrel to 0.1° C. Generous insulation makes the MP1200 cool to the touch. A convenient die release enables simple orifice removal for cleaning. A built-in mirror allows easy inspection of the barrel. An efficient weight design with taper ensures safer loading and unloading. Leveling of the base is simple and robust. With integral touchscreen panel and Tinius Olsen’s Horizon software, the MP1200 has basic data analysis built in, but also includes USB connectivity to a printer or PC.
