At NPE in Chicago, A.P.I. SpA of Italy introduced to North America its new Apinat family of compostable TPEs. They are distributed here by A. Schulman Inc., Akron, Ohio. A.P.I. is a maker of styrenic TPEs, TPUs, TPOs, and TPVs. Composition of Apinat is proprietary but is said to include polyester and other chemistries. It comes in hardnesses from 60 to 90 Shore A and 35 to 85 D. They are said to be 100% compostable but will not degrade in normal contact with air or water. A.P.I. also offers biodegradable, nontoxic color concentrates under the name Apicolor B.
