Magic MP of Italy (magicmp.it) is launching a new line of all-electric machines engineered to compete in price with Asian machines. The new ME-UE series of continuous-extrusion shuttles carries the same base price as Magic’s IB hybrid models, which is 33% below the earlier ME all-electrics and 18% below more recent UE electric models. The first model in the new series, an ME-UE-L1/D (double-sided, one-liter), was exhibited at an Italian trade show in March.
ME-UE machines incorporate new extrusion heads (monolayer up to three layers), Siemens electronics, and a deflashing unit fixed to the mold to permit quicker mold changes. Energy savings are increased by regenerative braking. Units come in single- and double-sided models, long-stroke versions (up to 520 mm), and sizes from the 100/D to the L5.
Today, over half of Magic machines sold are all-electrics, and the remainder are hybrids. Magic expects ultimately to produce only electric machines. Magic is represented here by Blow Mold Solutions, Elwood, N.J.

The current upward trajectory of PET prices makes such designs more attractive.
