New methods for generating 2D prepreg patterns from 3D CAD models and improved nesting to ensure the most economic use of materials from cut sheet are features of the latest PowerShape CAD software from Delcam International, Windsor, Ont. It also provides an expanded range of five-axis machining methods for cutting patterns and tooling and trimming/routing molded parts  These developments will be shown next month at the JEC composites exhibition in Paris, France. PowerShape CAD software reportedly provides quick and easy methods for creating prepreg designs for molding complex curved shapes (photo). It is based on unwrapping techniques developed to cut leather shapes from shoe designs for the footwear industry.
