Ability to be reconfigured for changing needs is one major design concept behind the new T500 Series central granulators from ACS Group, Schaumburg, Ill., parent of the AEC/Nelmor, Cumberland, Sterling, and Colortronic brands, all of which will offer the new models. Other key criteria for the T500 Series are ease of maintenance and cleanout, compact footprint, and safety. The series comprises three models with 20-in. diam. rotors and 28, 36, or 48 in. width. Drives come in 40 to 100 hp for throughputs up to 3500 lb/hr. The standard tangential cutting chamber can be converted to offset or 3-bed-knife design to accommodate different kinds of scrap from injection or blow molding, thermoforming, or rotomolding. The standard twin-shear rotor is said to be the most versatile type, and the T500 can accommodate steep-angle or high-shear rotor knives. Floorspace is minimized by the new side-mounted motor (left or right), which allows regrind evacuation from either side. For ease of maintenance and cleaning, the unit has a stationary hopper and access doors on front and back. The swing-down screen cradle is mounted in a novel position that makes it unnecessary to reach over the rotor to get at the back of the chamber. The rear hopper door is a new standard feature that makes it easier to remove stuck parts. Rotational sidewalls prevent smearing of plastic. Safety during servicing is provided by an improved mechanical rotor restraint.
