WEB EXCLUSIVE: Alliance Polymers and Services LLC, Romulus, Mich., a year-old distributor of thermoplastic elastomers, has introduced an initial slate of at least 20 SEBS-based Maxelast TPE compounds produced by Polymax Elastomer Technology Co., Ltd. in Nantong, China. Both standard and custom grades are offered. Polymax is a 10-year-old TPE joint venture of Chinese and American investors, which operates under the supervision of Martin Lu, formerly the Far East Technical Supervisor of GLS China. Recent Polymax developments include a halogen-free, low-smoke, flame-retardant TPE for wire and cable that reportedly meets UL and VDE standards, as well as a translucent TPE that bonds to PC/ABS and other engineering plastics. Alliance plans to add Polymax TPVs to its line and to establish a U.S. TPE compounding plant in mid-2012. Alliance also distributes BASF Elastollan TPUs.
