A three-layer coex blown film line displayed last month at the K Show in Germany by Ghioldi srl in Marnate, Italy, uses permanent-magnet, synchronous torque ("syn-torque") motors from Parker Hannifin Corp., Cleveland. This is the first known extrusion application of Parker's syn-torque motors. They appeared on a line with two 65-mm and one 100-mm extruders, which were pre-mounted and wired (as was the die) on a platform that contains all electrical connections. The direct-drive motors reduce energy consumption and take up less space since they lack bulky gear boxes. This allows the platform to fit in a standard shipping container. The demonstration at K made 2-meterwide film with a 400-mm die, IBC, and auto gauge control. Ghioldi srl via Po, 665 – I-21050 Marnate VA Italy
