A new generation of Sphero underwater pelletizers from Automatik Plastics Machinery in Germany (U.S. office in Spartanburg, S.C.) reportedly offers better water flow and a convenient new interlock device that enables the cutting chamber to be flipped open with just one hand—an industry first. Straight-line water flow with tangential inflow/outflow to/from the cutting chamber, makes it easy to clean while reducing wear and improving performance. The cutting head has a new universal joint that keeps the cutting edges aligned to the die plate. This reportedly increases knife life by up to 30%.

To ease installation, all electrical components come prefitted with cables and plugs for instant “plug & play” connection. Access to upstream components such as the extruder has been improved. The new models also boast significant gains in energy efficiency.
