Conductive TPEs from Premix Oy in Finland are now available in North America through TPE Solutions Inc., Shirley, Mass. Preseal modifi ed SEBS-based compounds reportedly offer better performance and processability than silicone in EMI shielding applications. Uses include seals and gaskets for E/E components, military and automotive products, computers, cell phones, and PDAs. Premix's U.S. subsidiary, Premix Thermoplastics Inc. in Milton, Wis. supplies conductive engineering resins. Electrical conductivity is achieved with fi llers such as silver-coated or nickel-coated glass. Properties include low compression set, low hardness in a highly fi lled compound (55 to 65 Shore A), and low melt viscosity. Overmolding onto most substrates can be achieved without the use of primers. Complex injection molded and extruded shapes are claimed to be achieved more easily than with silicone.
