Septon Co. of America, Pasadena, Texas, has come out with the Septon V9000 series of hydrogenated styrenic block copolymers with crosslinkable hard blocks. They are curable with peroxide, electron beam, or uv. These products reportedly offer better oil and heat resistance than typical SBCs or olefinic TPVs for use in automotive underhood and interior applications. While standard compression-set tests of Septon V9000 yield results equivalent to standard olefinic TPVs, long-term (1000-hr) compression set is said to be much better for the new SBCs. The materials are also said to be easy to process by injection and extrusion. Wire and cable grades are in development.
