WEB EXCLUSIVE A new chain extender reportedly helps control cure rates of polyurea and hybrid thick-film spray coatings used in truck-bed liners and construction coatings, as well as in systems used in adhesives, sealants, and elastomers. Ethacure 420 from Albemarle Corp., Baton Rouge, La., is an aromatic diamine that can be used with other products of this type, such as Albemarle’s workhorse Ethacure 100 to provide cure-time flexibility for various polyurea applications. Ethacure 400 reportedly can provide improved pot life, easier and more consistent application of thicker spray coatings and soft elastomer sealants and caulks. Spray systems can achieve high flow rates and smoother finished coatings without “orange-peel” effect, along with excellent tensile strength for severe-service applications such as containment barriers, floors, parking garages, and bridges.
