The latest PCT2 dual-bed desiccant dryers from Universal Dynamics, Inc., Woodbridge, Va., now come standard with the fi rm's FCX control, which incorporates the System Datalogger. This was formerly an optional standalone instrument. It allows monitoring of many more variables than on standard dryers and can download them to a PC for charting and analysis. For example, the chart pictured here shows 12 variables: process and regeneration heater temperatures, hopper return air temperature, regeneration outlet temperature, hopper throat temperature, right and left desiccant bed internal temperatures, and process-air dewpoint. There are also three analog pressure inputs for monitoring process and regeneration fi lter condition and hopper differential pressure. These and other data can be recorded for up to 72 hr. Such data can be linked to specifi c material lots for quality monitoring. They also can assist troubleshooting and be used to schedule preventive maintenance to fi x problems that may not be obvious in routine maintenance. For example, a check of hopper outlet temperature will indicate the consistency of resin delivery to the hopper. Tel: (703) 491-2191 . www.unadyn.com
