Through the integration of a standard hand-held barcode scanner in its machines, Pad Print Machinery of Vermont, East Dorset, Vt., has created a new-generation of custom inkjet and pad printers. When the barcode scanner option is installed in the printing system, the risk of improper parameters being loaded when changing from one print job to the next is virtually eliminated, according to company CEO Julian Joffe.
While this option has been popular with the company’s medical industry customers due to stringent process validation requirements, many other industries can benefit from this feature according to Pad Print Machinery. Barcode-generated job submittal requires much less operator and setup involvement in the configuration of the system for the new print job, thereby reducing the time and effort required. This is said to result in greatly reduced scrap rates and increased profitability and productivity.
