Hexene comonomer-based LLDPE and mLLDPE film resins are now being offered by Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich.

Hexene comonomer-based LLDPE and mLLDPE film resins are now being offered by Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich. They are produced by the same solution process technology as Dow's standard octene copolymers. The initial launch includes six Dowlex grades, made with Ziegler-Natta catalysts, and one Elite Enhanced PE grade produced with Insite metallocene catalyst technology. This move signals a long-term commitment by Dow to supply hexene-based resins, according to market manager Joe Laehu. Hexene grades are offered as a lower-cost but still high-performance alternative to premium octene grades. The first six Dowlex hexene grades span a density range of 0.9190 to 0.9309 g/cc and MI from 0.75 to 0.90. The one initial hexene-based Elite mLLDPE has a density of 0.9170 and 4.50 MI.
