A new electric heater suitable for extrusion crossheads, injection molding nozzles, hot runners, and fluid temperature controllers is said to provide much faster response than other heaters, making it less expensive to operate. Exhibited at the recent NPE show in Chicago, the CRES Ultra Response heater from Industrial Heater Corp., Cheshire, Conn., boasts low thermal mass and smaller size and weight than other heaters of the same kw capacity. As explained by company president Tad McGwire, most electric heaters have a helically wound resistance wire inside, which emits heat in all directions. The CRES heater has a single straight resistance element in the center, which emits all its heat in the shortest path to the exterior of the device.
