The NEX series of all-electric machines from Nissei America, Anaheim, Calif, has been upgraded with a new version of its TACT controller offering closed-loop clamp-force control plus faster injection speed and response. The controller also includes new software for mold-filling control and precise shot metering during plastication, as well as simplified settings for mold protection. The new feedback control enables the toggle clamp to function similar to a direct-pressure clamping approach. The system corrects changes in clamp force caused by thermal expansion of the mold or other factors. Clamp force can be changed on the fly. Low-inertia servomotors on models from 33 to 121 tons reportedly deliver faster injection with 2.7 times faster acceleration response. Smaller presses, like the 55-ton model, can achieve 500-mm/sec injection speed, 50% faster than before. The series comprises 10 machines from 16.5 to 507 tons.
