Switzerland’s Quadrant Plastic Composites (U.S. office in Northville, Mich.) has introduced a glass-mat thermoplastic (GMT) sheet with steel-fiber reinforcement for highly energy-absorbing parts like auto bumper beams, one of which is expected to go commercial this year. Compression molded Easi GMT reportedly meets crash impact requirements at 50 mph and is 30% lighter than steel. The hybrid sheet is made of directional steel cord and glass fiber in a PP matrix. Impact resistance, strength, and stiffness can be tailored for the application. (248) 374-1862 • www.quadrantcomposites.com
