A line of universal testing machines has been expanded to include four load capacities and three height combinations to suit most QC applications and laboratory requirements for testing materials and components. The newly enhanced line of testing machines from Zwick USA, Kennesaw, Ga., has load capacities of 500 N, 1 kN, 2.5 kN, and a new 5-kN model. These machines come with Zwick’s updated testControl system and testXpert software, whose modular design reportedly allows tests to be easily configured and stored. Depending on the model, speeds up to 3000 mm/min reportedly enable high-speed testing or short cycle times, such as for testing elastomers and springs. Zwick claims its control system speeds testing by recording all important machine data, including the crosshead and limit-switch positions, even if the machine is switched off, eliminating much of the setup time required with traditional systems. Load-frame compliance can be compensated automatically, which is said to increase the accuracy and consistency of compression/flexural test results. Correction is carried out in real time directly in the machine controller, while the adaptive drive control is said to ensure optimum response and performance from the drive system. Solving problems generally requires distinguishing good samples from bad ones. But that can become clumsy when one person runs the test while another analyzes the data.
