WEB EXCLUSIVE A line of polyurethane resin systems high glass-transition temperature (Tg) and low smoke and flame-spread ratings is newly available in North America for use in high-temperature composites. Blendur PUR resins from BaysBayer MaterialScience LLC, Pittsburgh, reportedly has been proven in high-heat applications in European aerospace, automotive, rail, and electrical markets for three decades. They can be custom formulated to meet the most demanding applications, and can be processed with common thermoset manufacturing processes such as RTM, vacuum infusion, filament winding, pultrusion, prepreg molding, moldmaking, casting, and injection molding. Blendur one- and two-component systems can have viscosities from 30 to 2500 mPa-s, and pot lives and gel times from 10 min to 6 hr. They can even be made to react at room temperature. Properties reportedly include low thermal expansion, chemical and hydrolysis resistance, ant Tg around 280 C.
