Green Forest Composites Inc. in Nevada, Mo., is extruding die-drawn, oriented composite boards up to 60 ft long of PP plus 30% wood fi ber for pedestrian bridges. Die drawing reduces the density of the 1 x 4 profi les and adds stiffness by creating elongated holes behind the individual wood fi bers as the material is pulled in the machine direction, similar to the grain in natural wood. The arched bridges are built by EverArch Inc. in Grimsby, Ont., which has installed four bridges up to 32 ft long x 7 ft wide. EverArch is now quoting larger bridges for light vehicular traffi c-up to 50 ft long x 12 ft wide-for which Green Forest is developing its fi rst structural 2 x 4 boards.
