New model CSC/BF-PE backflush screen changers from Maag Pump Systems (now called Maag Automatik, Inc.), Charlotte, N.C., offer fully automatic filtration and screen cleaning at consistent throughput rates. The flow-channel design is free of dead spots, reportedly suiting it to direct recycling of PET bottle flakes into thermoformable sheet.
For automatic filter cleaning, the amount of material needed for backflushing is collected in a permanently flushed accumulator, and the dirty filter screens are then backflushed with this material via a pressure control outside the process. Filter cleaning is controlled by pressure and/or time.
Maag also introduced its first set of gear pumps with ceramic bearings, which are said to offer 50% longer service life than steel. The new bearings are said to provide better resistance to abrasion and aggressive additives like bromine. They are also reportedly beneficial for processing flexible PVC or polymers containing high levels of glass fibers.
