Future Design Inc., Mississauga, Ont., has been awarded a patent on its Saturn Evacuation System (SES), which reduces airborne contamination that fills the plant during the blown film process. Particulates are emitted as film exits the die. These particles are too heavy to stay airborne and be captured by conventional exhaust systems, so they typically settle on nearby equipment frames, railings, electrical components, or plant lighting.
Situated between the die and air ring, the SES reportedly captures up to 80% of particles. The unit can be taken apart to clean.
