EXTRUSION: Entry-Level, Fixed-Point Web Gauging

The new fixed-point 8000-F web-gauging system is described as a cost-effective, entry-level version of the TDi family of distributed measurement and control systems from NDC Infrared Engineering Inc., Irwindale, Calif. Measurement options include either NDC’s gamma backscatter or near-infrared sensors. These can be configured to suit a wide range of calendering and coating applications. For example, multiple fixed-point sensors can be positioned across the web for either cross-axis or dual-gap calendering applications. Or, they can be arranged in the machine direction for coat-weight measurement of up to three coating stations. Sensors can be added as needed.

The system can provide visibility across up to eight process lines. Operators can view real-time web-quality information and optional advanced reporting and diagnostic functionality such as fast fourier transform (FFT) and statistical process control (SPC).
